And, I have officially gotten more geeky. I have transitioned from Outlook to Thunderbird for email, and I have incorporated Enigmail for signing and encrypting messages. If you would like my public PGP key, click here.
For reasons I’d rather not have to get into I have had to resurrect the WynnBlog email policy. This is the same policy that used to appear on my website, with a few pertinent modifications.
WynnBlog Email Policy
I love email, and I love hearing from friends, family, and WynnBlog readers. Email has made it so much easier to keep up with the folks I care about. However, the flip-side is that it also makes it easier for people to send me junk! I am dedicated to eliminating SPAM from the Internet. If you send it to me, it will NOT be forwarded. Below, I am listing a guide to consider before sending email
To Send or Not to Send?
By all means, send us email. Just follow the guidelines.
Forwarded Junk?
Do not send. I have seen all the cute, sad, funny, tear-jerking, must-see, Bill-Gates-is-tracking-this, this-kid-gets-a-penny-everytime-this-is-forwarded, Bill-Clinton-is-a-murderer, the-FCC-is-going-to-remove-Touched-by-an-Angel-from-the-air, Elvis-is-really-alive, your-organs-might-be-stolen, Disney-World-is-stupid-enough-to-give-away-free-trips, you-can-get-a-non-accredited-degree-cheap, restore-your-manhood-with-cheap-Viagra, Barack Obama-is-the-Anti-Christ, forward-this-or-you-will-surely-die piece of spam out there. I really don’t need to see them again. And, rest assured, I will not forward any of them. The emails go straight to the delete box and my respect for you as a human being diminishes. The rule of thumb should be that you check out every message before you send it on. The best place is here: Snopes. On Snopes.com, you can search their archives to see whether your concern of the day is really a hoax or not. As much as I agree with the sentiment of a lot of the hoaxes I get, it makes us and our side look like rubes to believe and quote this fiction.
Final Advice for Sending Email?
Well, the main thing is I’d rather receive legitimate communication from you than the latest conspiracy theory. Just say you love me, rather than sending an email with a billion embedded headers that says you will really love me if I forward it on to seven of my closest friends. Let’s keep in touch with our own sentiments rather than the oft-forwarded words of others. I know it takes a bit more work, but that’s what caring is all about. I promise to treat you the same way! Bottom line, if it’s not a legitimate communication between you and me, don’t email it. Otherwise, fire up the keyboard.
