I have a Garmin StreePilot I bought from Wal-Mart a couple years ago. It’s been a good unit (other than the battery not holding a charge anymore), but my map data needed to be updated. Since we’re headed to Nashville, I thought I’d pay for the map update real quick, mainy for some updated POI data. Well, I thought wrong. There’s nothing real quick about it. Should have been on the road long ago, and here I sit at 66% updated.
The moral of this story: if you’re going to update your Garmin GPS, pack a lunch (5-course), bring a book (War and Peace), and don’t have a wife (Jeane) chomping at the bit to get on down the road.
P.S. As for the battery not holding a charge, it seems from my online searches to be a fairly common problem. It hasn’t really affected me much since I don’t really use the GPS outside the car, but a replacement battery was very cheap (the shipping was more than the purchase price) from a third party. Soon as I get some time, I’ll solder it in.

Hey Tyson! I found your site on OK Magazine’s list. Haven’t seen you since our days ruling the world….ok maybe just the NE corner of Oklahoma’s FHA scene but it felt like a much bigger deal back then!

Hey Mrs. Gibson, you forget that you occupied an office I previously held, therefore it is not quite possible that you were the best…
We did rule out little world. Imagine my shock when I discovered how big the world really is.
I am blown away by making OK Magazine’s list. I keep losing the Okie Blog Awards. Maybe this is a sign things have changed. I, as I am sure you know, have not.
