I’ve been listening to all the talking heads on TV and the talking voices on radio during this campaign season, and the best description I can find for my response is…malaise. I am apathetic and unmotivated. I vacillate between two opinions as to whether it would be better for McCain or Huckabee to be the nominee (though I am not much moved by either). I am, however, quite impressed with Huck’s dedication to stay in the race until a nominee been elected rather than bowing out early (I kinda wish I had the money I gave Thompson back since he dropped out so quickly). I like Huck on the Fair Tax. And there are a few other issues I prefer him on, too.

And the long story short is I don’t like McCain. [Insert obligatory comment praising McCain as a true American hero]. McCain, though he is right on some things, has been a constant source of frustration for me over the last several years. I do like the idea of his selecting a real conservative running mate, but I am not sure many true-blue conservatives would want to be his running mate. And I don’t really want to be int he position of hoping my president doesn’t fulfill his term. That’s a bit macabre.

And then there is the democrat side. We have bad and worse. Hillary is tanking, and I think Obama would be harder to beat than Hillary. But, then again, as many have pointed out, with the options we have we know things are gonna be a mess whether the Republicans or Democrats win the presidency, so maybe it would be better if the Dems get the blame. But, there’s so much that can happen in four years. I think we have to also seriously consider our troops as we vote for their next commander in chief. And, then there’s the supreme court. One would have to think that McCain’s choices, though not as conservative as I would hope, would be to the right of who Hillary or Obama would drag up. And there are some long-term consequences. Some of the liberal wing of the Supremes have just been clinging to life their seats until a Democrat gets elected. It would not surprise me to see Stevens and Ginsburg both leave in short order if Hillary or Barry wins.

Sometimes this business about being an adult and having to process this information and come to a God-honoring answer is rough. All I do know is that not voting is not an option. I have read remarks by some who insist that they can’t vote for the lesser of two evils because that is still evil. These short-sighted rubes fail to understand what a figure of speech is. Plus, regardless of the outcome of this election, the rulers of America are the same. We the people are the supreme rulers of the land. We are not calling a national pastor. We are hiring a governmental executive. While I would agree that it is to our benefit that we honor God by choosing someone who worships God through His Son, the real issue is that the supreme rulers of the land (we the people) cherish God in our hearts and honor Him in our lives. God grant that we make wise choices.

And I wouldn’t mind something to get fired up about.
