Why Republicans are in the Shape We’re In
2October 30, 2006 by Tyson Wynn
Dick Armey’s editorial in Sunday’s Washington Post is dead-on. He makes some astute observations, specifically that if Republicans lose the majority, it will NOT be because they are TOO conservative. My sentiments exactly. He states:
If Democrats take control of Congress on Nov. 7, they will form an accidental majority. They are not succeeding because of their principles or policy proposals, but simply because they have kept their heads down. Republicans, fearful of taking on big tasks and challenges, may be defeated next month by a party that offers nothing on the key issues of our day.

The likely Republican losses in next week’s elections will not constitute a repudiation of the conservative legacy that drove the Reagan presidency and created the Contract With America. To the contrary, it would represent a rejection of big government conservatism. When we get back to being the party of limited government, putting a national agenda ahead of parochial short-term politics, we will again be a party that the American voters will trust to deal with the serious challenges facing our nation.
Read it all.

PS I am not so sure Republican losses will be as bad as the left and MSM (one in the same) would have us believe. For the last few election cycles, we have been told how dire it was for Republicans. I’ll put it this way: I am not thrilled with everything the Republicans are doing, but I am certainly not running to Democrats for relief.

I agree voting for Democrats is not the solution. I see it like going to the Humanist Manifesto for guidance on a spiritual issue
that God’s Word has left as a mystery or referencing the UN Charter to interpret our Constitution. Our dilemma is as Christian Conservatives we provide the Big Votes while the Economic Elite provide the Big Money. The Politicians take care of the Big Money first and end up putting us off until the next election and then say “Daddy give me one more chance and I will do the right thing”. Like a lax parent we give them another chance but never check in with them until their in need of us to bail them out again. God put us in a position to choose our government but he also put us in a position to consult with him first if we choose to do so, I think we should do just that.
I agree with you as usual. What is hard is that we Oklahomans usually do a pretty good job electing folks for the national offices. But all the Inhofes and Coburns don’t mean a thing when there are all those Pelosis, Lennedys, and Schumers to contend with. The Republicans have never developed a majority mindset. One thing the Dems have doen consistently is refuse to be treated like a minority, and it may well serve them well. There is a part of me that says, “Serves em right!” if the Rep’s lose the majority. However, we then have to live with a Dem majority for at least two years. That’s enough time to do some real damage.
So, do I wish the Reps had done more? You bet. Do I think the Dems will succeed where they failed, not in the least. I mean, if the Dems were in the majority, does anyone think we would have a border fence going up or we would have gotten tax cuts? As bad as spending is with the Reps, can you fathom spending with the Dems?
I will vote Republican again, and I will continue to expect the best out of them.
