Well, we’re back in the groove in Oklahoma. Denver and Colorado Springs were fun, but we are all settled in back at the ranch now. And man, is it ever hot! But we’re not surprised.
I am amazed at how many folks act like this is breaking news, not to mention the newscasts that lead with the story. Hmmm, it’s Oklahoma; it’s Summer; it’s hot as blue blazes. Seems about right to me. But to hear some of these folks, it has never broken the century mark in Oklahoma before. As Roy Mercer says, “Bull Butter!” I remember how hot it was all the time I was growing up, and especially working Summers with my dad pouring concrete, roofing houses, etc. In fact, I am not even kidding when I tell people that roofing houses one summer is when I decided college was the way I should go.
And so, it is Summer in Oklahoma. And it is hot. No big news there.
It is big news when we have a mild Summer.
But here’s the official WynnCast notice for all Oklahomans. In the Summer, especially July and August, it will be hot enough to make your eyes blister. Prepare yourself. Skip a few lottery tickets and cigarettes and buy yourself a window unit for the really hot days, take lots of breaks in the shade, drink plenty of plain water, and make sure your animals are cool. Check on the elderly around you.
Oh, and here’s a tip, there will be a few days in Winter, somewhere from December to February, when it is a tundra. It will be cold. Again, skip a few beers and Slim Jims and get yourself a coat, leave your faucets dripping, and keep your animals warm. Check on the elderly around you.
So there you have it from the WynnBlog’s Community Service Desk. Use your heads. It will be hot in Summer and cold in Winter. Be prepared and quit acting like it is a surprise…or even news.
PS, there will be storms in the Spring. That means big, bad tornadoes. And electrical outages. Get a candle or two and a Mag Light if you can do without the weekly casino run.
